The deadline is approaching to take part in an annual city of Aurora program designed to offer some holiday cheer to local members of the military.

Aurora’s annual Gifts from Home program honors active military personnel from Aurora by providing them with a holiday package, including a gift card to use for an online purchase and a personalized letter, according to a press release from the city.

Receiving mail from your hometown while on active military duty is a welcome surprise, city officials said in the release. For those stationed away from home during the holiday season, that surprise is even more special.

To register an active member of the military from Aurora to receive a holiday package through the program, go to www.aurora-il.org/GiftsFromHome.

To ensure timely delivery for the holidays, the deadline to submit information is Monday, Nov. 11, city officials said.

The program is an annual holiday tradition in Aurora, officials said.

Over the years, the program has evolved, with the sending of perishable goods that can take a long time to get were they are going replaced by gift cards that can be used any time to purchase items the member of the military receiving the holiday package wants, city officials have said.
