Delhi Capitals Face Heat Online: #BoycottDelhiCapitals Goes Viral

BCCI has officially announced the revised schedule for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, with the tournament set to resume on May 17. The season had been suspended midway on May 9 due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting many foreign players to return home.

While several overseas cricketers are now returning for the remainder of the league, others have opted out. Meanwhile, a major controversy has errupted involving the Delhi Capitals.

Social Media erupts over Mustafizur Rahman

After the suspension, BCCI permitted franchises to seek player replacements. Delhi Capitals named Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, the dynamic Australian batter. However, shortly afterward, Mustafizur posted on social media that he would not be joining the IPL, instead choosing to represent Bangladesh in a 2-match ODI series against UAE.

DC’s decision to sign a Bangladeshi player has angered fans, who are accusing the franchise of poor judgment. Many are demanding a ban on Bangladeshi players in the IPL, expressing their frustration through hashtags like #BoycottDelhiCapitals and labeling the franchise a “Deshdrohi team” on X.

Bravo, @ParthJindal11 While Indian soldiers guard our borders, you’re busy rewarding players from a country cheering for Pakistan. Truly visionary leadership — business over backbone, runs over respect. #BoycottDelhiCapitals #Shameful

Have lived in delhi all my life and supported delhi daredevils and now Delhi capitals since the inception. Even was part of a fan club – but today – the journey ends! Cannot support a team that has a Bangladeshi. Shameful decision and one that will see lots of fans turning away.

Delhi Capitals still in the Playoff hunt

Delhi Capitals remain firmly in contention for IPL 2025 playoffs. The team had a strong start to the season but has recently lost momentum. Out of 11 matches played, they’ve secured 6 wins, suffered 4 losses, and had 1 no-result. With 13 points, they currently occupy 5th place on the points table.

With three league matches remaining, DC must win at least two to strengthen their playoff chances.
