Delhi: Passenger Arrested At IGI Airport For Smuggling Over 7 Kg ‘Heroin’ Worth Rs 29.28 Crore

The Customs officers at IGI Airport, New Delhi booked an Indian passenger for allegedly smuggling a narcotic substance suspected to be heroin. The passenger had arrived at Terminal-3 on November 9 from Bangkok via Kuala Lumpur when he was held with 7.321 kg of ‘white heroin’ valued at approximately Rs 29.28 crore. 

According to Delhi Customs (Airport & General), the passenger was intercepted after he had crossed the green channel and was approaching towards exit gate of International arrival hall.

“During baggage search of the pax, white colour narcotics substance packed in 7 green colour polythene packets, totally Net weighing 7.321 Kg (without packing material) was recovered from trolley bag of the pax. Diagnostic test, confirmed the substance, suspected to contain Heroin. The recovered substance suspected to Heroin is valued of Rs. 29.28 Crore approx,” Delhi Customs said.

After the passenger was found to have violated various provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, he was arrested on November 10 at around 8 PM under section 43(b) of the Act.

“The white powdery substance suspected to be Heroin has been seized along with the concealing material under section 43(a) of NDPS Act, 1985,” Delhi Customs said.

Further investigation in connection with the matter is under progress.

In another case, three people were arrested by the Delhi Customs at the IGI Airport under section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962 for smuggling gold. 

One of them was a passenger coming from Muscat to New Delhi on Nove,ber 4, another worked as a buggy operator at IGI Airport, and the third acted as a receiver of gold outside T-3 of the airport.

Gold weighing 1168 grams valued at ₹88.40 Lakhs was extracted from the recovered gold paste in two plastic pouches. Upon questioning it was revealed that the buggy operator and the receiver were involved in the smuggling of gold worth Rs 3.91 crores in the past as well.
