Delhi Rains Adds To Winter Woes, More Showers Predicted. Flight, Train Ops Hit

Rain Updates: Amid the persisting cold in the national capital, the India Meterological Department has said that thunderstorm with moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of many parts of Delhi and the NCR. Following the downpour that took pace on Wednesday and early hours on Thursday, people have been facing difficulties as flight and train operations have been affected.

According to the IMD the areas where more more showers are likely include: Narela, Alipur, Vivek Vihar, Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Mahrauli), NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida) Rajaund, Safidon, Barwala, Jind, Panipat, Gohana, Gannaur, Meham, Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Nuh (Haryana) Baraut, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Amroha, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sambhal, Billari, Chandausi, Bulandshahar, Jahangirabad, Bahajoi (UP) Bhiwari (Rajasthan), Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Burari, Rohini, Karawal Nagar), NCR ( Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Gurugram, Manesar.

The weather office has also said that light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Moradabad, Rampur, Iglas, Raya, Hathras and Mathura in Uttar Pradesh during the next 2 hours.

According to IMD, the recorded rainfall from 0830 on January 31st to 0530 hrs IST on February 1st in Delhi was 23.0 mm in Palam and 30.8 mm in Safdarjung.

Meanwhile on Thursday, unexpected rain accompanied with thunderstorms lashed Delhi for the second day on Thursday. The heavy downpour that started on Wednesday morning has resulted in roads blockages and waterlogging, further increasing the difficulty for the residents in the national capital. On Wednesday, IMD had predicted that the weather in Delhi is likely to remain the same on Thursday.

“One patch is moving across Delhi and is currently giving light to moderate rainfall at a few places, accompanied by moderate to intense thunderstorms and lightning and gusty winds,” said IMD.

IMD further added that another patch was moving from Rohtak and Jhajjar towards Delhi. “Another patch is moving from Rohtak and Jhajjar (Haryana) towards Delhi, this may give another spell of light to moderate rainfall at a few places accompanied by moderate to intense thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds after 2-3 hours”.
