Denver Broncos acquiring New York Jets QB Zach Wilson in pick swap

It’s draft week and the Broncos have a new quarterback.

Just, not from the draft. At least not yet.

Denver is acquiring Zach Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft, from the New York Jets in a swap of late-round draft picks, sources confirmed Monday to The Post.

Wilson’s had a rough go of it since his lofty draft position three years ago, compiling a 12-21 record as a starter while throwing for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions on 57% completions during his time in New York.

The Broncos, meanwhile, have been exploring the quarterback market all offseason and now land one days before picking No. 12 overall in the 2024 NFL draft.

Denver is getting Wilson and a seventh-round pick (No. 256) from the Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick (No. 203). New York is also likely picking up some of the money Wilson is due this year, which totals $5.5 million. Wilson is due to make $1.055 million in base salary and has a $4.4 million roster bonus. The Jets did not pick up his fifth-year option, meaning he’s set to be a free agent after the 2024 season.

Wilson struggled from the start after the Jets picked him second overall in a quarterback-heavy 2021 draft class. Last year, he was supposed to take a step back, watch and learn from Aaron Rodgers, but the future Hall of Famer tore his Achilles tendon on the fourth play of Week 1 and Wilson was thrust back into action.

He started nine straight games but was benched, then returned to start in Weeks 13 and 14. He finished the season with 2,271 yards and eight touchdowns against seven interceptions.

This story will be updated.
