Surat, February 14: When Dipak Bharwad, the managing director of Surat-based Gokul Developers, donated writing books to the tribal students at the government school in Chikhli taluka in the Navsari district, the gratitude on the students’ faces was palpable.
Dipak Bharwad, well-known for his charitable work in the field of education, recently gave away around 18,000 writing books through the Malabhai Sarabhai Bhadiyadara Education Trust.
When Dipak Bharwad heard that tribal students in the Navsari district lacked basic resources like textbooks and pens, he sent a team to Chikhli to help fill the void. The volunteers worked side-by-side with the students and learned that many of them lacked the means to purchase necessities like books and pens.
Dipak Bharwad, MD of Gokul Developers, a prominent real estate firm in Surat, said, “We immediately took a call to dispatch 18,000 writing books for the tribal students.” Students from Adivasi families are disproportionately represented in schools because their parents are poor and must work in the fields or other menial occupations to make ends meet. The students from the tribes do not have enough money to buy the necessary school supplies. Despite this, we have decided to roll out the first phase of our book distribution by giving away 18,000 writing books.
Dipak Bharwad chimed in, “We will continue our social service in the backward areas of south Gujarat to improve the education of our future generation.”
