The five-match T20 series between New Zealand and Pakistan has taken an exciting turn. After winning the first two matches, New Zealand stumbled in the third, allowing Pakistan to bounce back.
NZ vs PAK T20I series now moves to the fourth T20I in Mount Maunganui, but ahead of this clash, New Zealand has suffered a major setback.
Matt Henry ruled out of NZ vs PAK T20I series
Fast bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out of the remaining two T20I matches of NZ vs PAK T20I series due to injury.
He sustained a right shoulder injury during the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa in Pakistan and subsequently missed the final against India in Dubai.
Also, Henry is dealing with a right knee issue, further sidelining him. To replace him, Canterbury pacer Zakary Foulkes has been added to the squad for the last two T20Is.
“Blackcaps pace-bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out of the remainder of the KFC T20I series against Pakistan as he continues his injury rehabilitation programme,” NZC said in a statement.
Squad changes for remaining two NZ vs PAK T20I matches
Another adjustment to New Zealand squad sees Will O’Rourke, who was initially selected for the first three T20s, retained for the final two matches in place of Kyle Jamieson. Despite their recent loss, New Zealand still leads the five-match T20I series 2-1 against Pakistan.
Pakistan’s strong comeback
Pakistan put up a ‘historic performance’ in the third T20 against New Zealand, securing a dominant nine-wicket victory at Eden Park.
Batting first, New Zealand posted a solid total of 204 runs, with Mark Chapman playing a fiery knock of 94 runs. Captain Michael Bracewell also contributed 31 off 18 balls.
However, Pakistan chased down the target with ease, courtesy of Hasan Nawaz’s explosive century. He smashed 105 runs off just 45 balls, including 10 fours and seven sixes. Mohammad Haris added 41 runs, while captain Salman Aga remained unbeaten on 51, guiding Pakistan to a comfortable win and keeping the series alive.
