Doughnut shop set to be built in Oswego

Oswego trustees recently approved an agreement with a developer proposing to build a Dunkin’ Donuts at the east corner of Route 71 and Washington Street.

As part of the proposal, the developer will purchase a 0.241-acre parcel from the village for $35,000 no later than Nov. 9.

Two parcels will be combined to create a 0.65-acre site on which the doughnut shop will be built, officials said.

Once the property is acquired from the village, the developer will build an 800-square-foot building on the site, Oswego Economic Developer Director Kevin Leighty said in a report to trustees.

The village originally purchased the smaller parcel from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2023. The village was prepared to sell it to a previous developer for the construction of a drive-thru coffee shop. However, earlier this year the developer requested to terminate the agreement.

The village subsequently entered into conversations with developer HD 71 LLC to construct a Dunkin’, Leighty said. The Village Board authorized a purchase and sale agreement for the site in June.

Construction on the Dunkin’ is slated to be completed by Dec 31, 2025.

“We wanted to allow them enough time in hopes the project will be done sooner,” Leighty told trustees.
