Amid the ongoing election campaigns and preparations for the Gujarat assembly elections, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) seized drugs in the Sindhrot and Moxi villages of the state on Tuesday. The team raided a field in Sindhrot late at night and busted drugs and a massive amount of chemicals from the area.

The ATS has detained five people in connection with the case and carried out searches at five other locations. It searched the houses of these five people and their close contacts. A team of Taluka police, district police, and SOG carried out the raids.

The searches began on Tuesday evening, continued till late at night, and may conclude on Wednesday at around 5 pm.

Apart from Sindhrot, the team also seized drugs worth Rs 1.225 crore from Savli’s Moxi village in the state. It is now probing if the drug seized in Sindhrot or the detained five people have any connection with the findings in Moxi.

The ATS may hold a press conference in the evening to brief about the entire operation.

Besides this, an SGST team also raided 64 places including 44 farms of metal scrap dealers in the state.

Earlier in October this year, the authorities busted a heroin consignment worth Rs 350 crore near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Informing about the same, the Gujarat DGP said that the consignment was sent by a big drug lord, Mohd Kadar, from Pakistan and the transaction was to take place in the Arabian Sea.

Election campaigns for the first phase of assembly elections in Gujarat have already concluded with the polling to take place on Thursday, December 1. The second phase of voting will be done on December 5 while the counting of votes polled for Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will be carried out on December 8.

Voting for the Himachal assembly was done in a single phase on November 12.
