Health system Duly Health and Care announced Wednesday that it has hired a new CEO, and that its current leader is leaving.
The system, which was formerly called DuPage Medical Group, said that current President Tami Reller will be the new CEO and co-chairman effective Sept. 16. Duly also announced Wednesday the departure of CEO and co-chairman Steve Nelson, effective Sept. 16.
“This was a planned departure and thoughtful transition that Steve will support. We’re incredibly grateful for his time and commitment to Duly,” Duly spokeswoman Molly McMillen said in an email.
Nelson told the Tribune he’s not yet at liberty to share where he’s going next. “Duly is a great company,” he said. “I loved my time with Duly, and I’m really appreciative of the opportunity to work here.”
The system named Nelson as its CEO in 2020, after CEO Michael Kasper died by suicide at the age of 46. Nelson, who was previously CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was hired about 14 months after Kasper died.
Reller has been Duly president since May 2021, and before that was chief marketing, digital and experience officer at insurer UnitedHealthcare.
Duly is the largest independent physicians group in Illinois and has been growing rapidly. It has about 1,000 primary care and specialty physicians and more than 7,000 employees across more than 150 locations.
In recent years, Duly expanded outside of Illinois, acquiring a medical group in South Bend, Indiana, and expanded into more parts of Illinois.
