Amidst the vibrant spirit of the festive season, Dakshin Chennai Prabasi Cultural Association (DCPCA) joyously commemorated the 10th Durga Puja Celebrations at Illara Resort Lawn in Navalur, Chennai on Friday. The celebration drew the presence of 100 esteemed guests with Chettinad Group Managing Director MAMR Muthiah gracing the event as the chief guest. Marking its inauguration on Friday, the DCPCA’s Durga Puja Celebrations are slated to unfold over four days, promising a rich tapestry of cultural events.

The first day witnessed the worship of the Durga idol, followed by engaging Bharatanatyam performances and a singing program. The primary aim of the event, organised by DCPCA, is to foster unity among people from all states in celebrating Durga Puja. Chairman MAMR Muthiah commended the DCPCA’s efforts in hosting the Durga Puja celebration in Chennai with a multicultural essence.

Addressing the gathering, MAMR Muthiah said, “I am happy to see a community formed especially from the North and Northeast. It makes me feel very happy. At the end of the day, I see Chennai growing at a faster phase in the last 2-3 years compared to Bengaluru and Hyderabad which have grown tremendously but Chennai’s growth is very slow due to its conservativeness.”

“But now I can see a lot of people coming here. I hope more and more people come and it becomes multicultural cosmopolitan city as soon as possible,” he said.

Muthiah mentioned the various charity works undertaken by the Chettinad group.

Further, he said, “DCPCA is doing a lot of good work I hope they will continue with their scholarships and other things.” He also assured to extend further help for the association.

One of the members of the DCPCA told ABP LIVE, “Being a visitor, it gives me immense pleasure knowing many people across different states coming from West Bengal, Odisha, Northeast India who put up their trade, charitable events, and a lot of volunteering campaigns… The most important point that I find in this Durgotsav is here people are welcomed from all walks of life.”

“I hope the tradition and bonding continues to grow, sustain the momentum from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu,” he added.

Overall, the association has around 250 members from various states mainly from West Bengal. The ceremony was conducted virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
