An Elgin man accused of firing a gun at his estranged wife outside her Naperville home has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, officials said.
Rocky Ahmedyar, 35, of the 1100 block of Spring Creek Road, also faces counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm, felony aggravated stalking and misdemeanor violation of an order of protection in connection with the incident that occurred early Tuesday morning.
The victim was allegedly confronted by Ahmedyar about 3 a.m. when she was in her car leaving for work from the home to which she had moved three months earlier with the couple’s three children, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office and the Naperville Police Department.
Ahmedyar was reportedly armed with a 9mm handgun and told the woman that if she did not speak to him, he would shoot her. After about 30 minutes, a car drove by, prompting to Ahmedyar to lower the gun and his wife to put the car in reverse and slowly back up, the report said.
When she ignored his demand that she stop driving, “Ahmedyar then fired a shot at the victim. The bullet went through the top right side of the driver’s seat toward the passenger side, missing the victim by millimeters,” the release said.
Ahmedyar fled on foot and was later apprehended by Elgin police when he pulled into his home driveway about 4:15 a.m. The gun was recovered following a search by Naperville police and a DuPage County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the release said.
Officials also disclosed that Ahmedyar had allegedly sent his wife many harassing and threatening texts with such messages as, “But b**** Iam not scared of your b**** a** I will f*** you up b****” and “I hope you die one ay b**** because your a virus in the world.”
Ahmedyar was previously arrested on a domestic violence charge, which is currently pending, and his wife had obtained an order of protection against him in Kane County, the release said.
DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden granted a prosecution motion that Ahmedyar be held in the county jail pending the outcome of his case.
“Domestic violence is not a private family matter, it is a serious crime that if left unchecked, can escalate causing serious physical harm to the victim, up to and including death,” DuPage State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “While the victim in this case was forced to endure an extremely stressful situation allegedly at the hands of her husband, we are all extremely thankful that she was physically unharmed.”
Ahmedyar’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 14.
