An Elgin man has been convicted of killing his wife in a slaying police discovered after his 4-year-old son was found wandering the streets on his own in July 2021.

Victor H. Ayllon, 38, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Wendy Ayllon, who was strangled to death after the couple had a fight at their home in the 300 block of Heine Avenue, a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Prosecutors said Ayllon told them that he and his wife began arguing about his drug addiction and her alleged infidelity, of which there was no evidence, about 2:15 a.m. July 12, 2021. The fight became physical and he choked her to death before fleeing in his car, leaving his two children — ages 3 and 4 — behind, the release said.

Police discovered the woman’s body that evening when they found the 4-year-old by himself at the intersection of Lawrence and North Aldine avenues, leading them to the family’s home about a half mile away, the release said. The 3-year-old was found at the front door, according to the police report.

Victor Ayllon was located at his parents’ home, and was initially taken to the hospital and then released to police. Investigators noted that he had faint marks on his wrists, the release said, and a camera in the couple’s house captured the sound of arguing, the victim screaming and a thud at the time of the attack.

Ayllon is facing a state prison term of 20 to 60 years when sentenced. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 20.

State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser said in a statement the she hopes Ayllon’s guilty plea “brings some measure of justice for Wendy Ayllon, whose life was tragically cut short, and her family.”

“The heinous action of the defendant, who callously strangled his wife to death and left her body with their two young children, is utterly reprehensible,” she said. “His selfish attempt to evade responsibility for his abhorrent actions demonstrates a complete disregard for human life and parental duty. We will continue to seek the appropriate punishment for this senseless act of violence.”

Wendy Ayllon, an Elgin High School graduate, married Victor Ayllon in 2008. She had a daughter followed by three sons, according to her Facebook page at the time of her death.

She owned a Tupperware business and posted videos online in which she can be seen holding bingo games to win Tupperware items.

On the day she died, she had updated her Facebook profile picture and posted a new photo of herself with her two young sons.
