East Dundee’s 6th annual Oktoberfest set for this weekend

The 6th annual East Dundee Oktoberfest will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the village downtown off North River Street.

Live music Friday night will be provided by The Polkaholics and Who’s Bad-The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience, according to the event’s webpage. On Saturday, the lineup includes The Ed Wagner Brass Band, LP Vinyl’s tribute to Journey and The Prince Experience.

Both days will feature food and drink from seven local vendors, a free bouncy house/inflatables play area for kids, a scarecrow display, contests and games.

Free shuttle service every 15 minutes will be available both nights. The first pick-up time is 4:30 p.m. and last at 10:25 PM. It will run between Carpentersville Middle School, 100 Cleveland Ave., to the corner of Barrington Avenue and East Third Street in East Dundee.

Randall Oaks Zoo’s month-long Fall Fest starts Saturday

Randall Oaks Zoo’s Fall Fest starts Saturday, Sept. 28, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 27.

It will feature pedal tractors, pumpkin enrichment for animals, pumpkins and fall treats for sale, and $3 hayrides, according to the event’s webpage.

Zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and regular admission rates apply. The zoo is located at 1180 N. Randall Road, West Dundee.

Literacy Connection’s 40th anniversary to be celebrated Thursday

The Literacy Connection’s 40 years of providing literacy services to the Elgin area will be feted with a free public event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at The Ed Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

The evening will feature dance entertainment by Grupo Folklorico Quetzal, dessert, community resources and other activities, according to the nonprofit organization’s website. Donations will be accepted.
