Kane forest preserve district offering free wood chips to the public Sunday

Residents can pick up free wood chips from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Burnidge Forest Preserve, 14N035 Coombs Road, Elgin, and Big Rock Forest Preserve, 46W072 Jericho Road, Big Rock.

Kane County Forest Preserve District staff will be on hand with a tractor to help load chips into vehicles, a news release said. The chips are from hardwood trees removed throughout the county because of storm damage or clearing efforts.

Discounted registration for Elgin Valley Fox Trot available through Tuesday

Registration is underway for the Elgin Valley Fox Trot taking place Sunday, June 2.

Staged by the Kenyon Farms Runners and the Elgin Lions clubs, the 10-mile race starts at 7:30 a.m. followed by a 5K at 7:40 a.m., according to a news release. Both race routes include a portion of the Fox River Trail and the Judson University campus.

Registration cost is $55 for the 10-mile race, $40 for the adult 5K and $20 for the youth 5K (open anyone 18 or younger) through Tuesday, April 30. Both will increase by $5 on Wednesday, May 1.

A post-race party will include an awards presentation, music, food, soft drinks, free massage therapy, vendor exhibits and a beer tent.

Fundraiser planned to support the Kane Specialty Courts Foundation

The second annual Inn Recovery Spring Fundraiser, which benefits the Kane County Specialty Courts Foundation, will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles.

Tickets are $50 per person for an evening that will include a meal prepared by Inn Recovery students, music, a silent auction and a raffle.

Centro de Información holding second annual Centro de Mayo event

Centro de Información will host its second annual Centro de Mayo event from 1 to 4 p.m. at it Elgin office, 1885 Lin Lor Lane.

Festivities will feature a taco truck with complimentary tacos for the first 100 guests, piñatas, special presentations by Centro teams and a drum circle by members of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, according to the nonprofit’s website.
