‘Ellen Show’ DJ Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss dead at 40

Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the popular DJ and producer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” has died at age 40.

His wife, Allison Holker Boss, confirmed the multi-talented entertainer’s death but didn’t disclose how he died.

Boss was found dead at a Los Angeles hotel shortly after his wife told police Tuesday that he left their home without his car, TMZ reported Wednesday, citing law enforcement sources. Though the report attributes the cause of death to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the L.A. County Medical Examiner-Coroner has not released information regarding a cause of death.

“He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans,” Holker Boss told People in a statement.

“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory.”

The charismatic Boss joined “Ellen” as a DJ in 2014 and was frequently featured on the daytime talk show. He became an executive producer in 2020 and remained with the program until it ended in May.

Boss came in second place on the fourth season of the reality competition show “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2008. He returned as an all-star for the show’s seventh season and met his future wife, who was back after competing on the series’ second season.

Boss appeared in the 2007 movie adaptation of “Hairspray,” three of the dance-focused “Step Up” films and the 2015 stripper comedy “Magic Mike XXL.”

He and Boss Holker had three kids together.

“Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you,” Holker Boss said in her statement.

Boss and his wife co-hosted the “Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings” series, which highlighted Disney-themed engagements and weddings.

In September, Boss told TMZ he was enjoying spending more time with his family after “Ellen” ended.

“Life has been great, man,” Boss said at the time. “We’ve been honestly having a lot more time at home. … Life is beautiful.”
