New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Saturday expressed grief on the demise of 106-year-old Shyam Saran Negi, the first voter of Independent India.
“Saddened to hear the news of the demise of Shyam Saran Negi Ji, the first voter of independent India and who belonged to Kinnaur,” the Chief Minister tweeted in Hindi.

106-year-old Shyam Saran Negi, the first voter of Independent India, passed away on Saturday morning at his native place in Himachal’s Kalpa. He will be cremated with full state honour, ANI reported DC Kinnaur as saying.
He exercised his right to franchise for the 34th time for the 14th Assembly Elections through a postal ballot at his residence in Kalpa on November 2.
