Former Bears running back Tarik Cohen sells Vernon Hills home

Former Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen on Friday sold his five-bedroom, 3,738-square-foot house in Vernon Hills for $821,000.

Cohen, 27, played for the Bears for four years, including being named to the Pro Bowl in 2018. He was released by the Bears in March 2022 after being plagued by injuries, including suffering from an ACL injury and a tibial plateau fracture. He has not joined another NFL team since.

On paper at least, Cohen made money on the house, which he purchased for $679,000 in 2021. Built in 2001 and located in Vernon Hills’ Gregg’s Landing development, the house has three bathrooms, hardwood floors, a family room with a fireplace and a three-car garage.

Cohen significantly upgraded the bathrooms in the house, listing agent Logan Jones of Compass previously told Elite Street, so it’s not clear if after the cost of those renovations, Cohen did better than breakeven. However, Jones noted that Cohen’s sale price was a new high-water mark for Gregg’s Landing.

The previous record sale price for a Gregg’s Landing home was $720,000 Jones said in a text message. “Astonishingly, my esteemed clients not only attained this noteworthy benchmark but also surpassed it with their remarkable sales price of $821,000, thus shattering the previous record by an impressive margin of $101,000.”

The house sits on a 0.39-acre parcel.

Cohen first listed the house in February for $899,000. He cut his asking price to $868,000 in March. Public records do not yet identify the buyers.

The house had an $18,200 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
