Former Chicago Blackhawks left wing Brandon Bollig has put his three-bedroom, 2,300-square-foot condominium in River North on the market for $1.09 million.
A member of the Blackhawks’ 2013 Stanley Cup-winning team, Bollig, 35, skated for parts of three seasons with the Blackhawks and then was with the Calgary Flames before announcing his retirement in 2018. He now is a commercial real estate broker in Chicago with @properties.
In River North, Bollig paid $810,000 in 2014 for the unit. Several weeks after buying the unit, he was traded to Calgary. However, since retiring, he and his wife have made the condo their full-time home, he told Elite Street.
“We love it, and we love the area. River North is awesome, and there has just been more and more added to River North, which we’re certainly going to miss,” he said. “But we’re moving closer to family.”
After buying the loft unit, Bollig and his wife renovated the entire condo, including refinishing the hardwood floors, redoing both bathrooms top to bottom, installing new countertops and redoing the kitchen. The unit now has a “vintage modern vibe,” he said.
“We really enjoyed renovating it, too,” Bollig said. “So many people asked us, ‘What designer did you use?’ And it was my wife and I — more, my wife — who picked everything out.”
Bollig said the couple lucked out with their timing, finishing their renovation immediately before COVID-19 started shutting things down.
The unit has exposed brick and pipes, concrete columns, 11½-foot ceilings, a living room with built-in shelving and a fireplace, a dining room with a designer light fixture, a south-facing balcony and, a second bedroom with barn doors. The primary bedroom suite has a fully organized walk-in closet and a new spalike bathroom with a free-standing soaking tub, a separate shower and a double vanity. The unit’s kitchen has a large center island, white quartz countertops, new tile flooring, substantial cabinet space and Viking appliances such as a stovetop and flatiron combo and a wine refrigerator.
Listing agent Carrie McCormick of @properties called the loft “very chic and sophisticated.”
“I think people love the open space, and he really put some great finishes in there,” she said. “It’s got this warmth to it.”
Bollig first listed the condo in late October for $1.13 million. He reduced his asking price to $1.095 million on Nov. 19.
The condo had a $16,423 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
