Former Chicago Bulls GM Gar Forman lists Buffalo Grove home

Former Chicago Bulls general manager Gar Forman and his wife, Leslie, have their five-bedroom, 4,011-square-foot house in Buffalo Grove for sale for $775,000.

A California native, Forman, 63, joined the Bulls as a scout in 1998 and worked his way up through the administration until he became the team’s general manager in 2009. He led the Bulls to the playoffs in seven of his 10 years as general manager, but he was ousted from the team in April 2020 during a season that was halted for a time by the COVID-19 and that was marked by poor performance. Upon Forman’s firing, Tribune sports columnist Paul Sullivan wrote that “the Bulls don’t shoot, rebound, defend or handle the ball well, and they can’t even compete in the vastly inferior Eastern Conference, where a sub-.500 team can make the playoffs.”

Forman most recently has been a special advisor to the New Orleans Pelicans.

In Buffalo Grove, the Formans paid $536,000 in 2003 to buy the house from former Bulls guard Fred Hoiberg and his wife, Carol. Hoiberg later returned to the team as the Bulls’ head coach, working under Forman.

Built in 1997, the house has four bathrooms, two fireplaces, walls of windows, a family room with a fireplace, a first-floor sunroom, a first-floor office, a primary bedroom suite with a fireplace and a walk-in closet and a kitchen with an island, new stainless steel appliances, custom window treatments and sliding doors leading to a deck.

“It’s a fabulous floor plan,” listing agent Nadine “Deenie” Pomilia of RE/MAX Suburban told Elite Street. “It’s got a huge living area on the first floor plus a sunroom and a first-floor office, and it’s got five bedrooms and it’s also in the Stevenson school district. It was a great place for them to raise their kids, and they absolutely loved the house when they were there.”

Listing photos show a miniature Bulls basketball court on the floor of the family room.

The Formans first listed the house on May 2 for $785,000 and cut their asking price on May 15 to $775,000. Since June 3, there has been a contract pending to buy the house.

Pomilia said she did not have information on where the Formans moved, but public records show that they paid $1.59 million in 2019 for a five-bedroom, 5,434-square-foot house in Las Vegas’ Southern Highlands area.

The Buffalo Grove house had a $20,684 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
