Former Northwestern University athletic director Jim Phillips, who now is the commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and his wife, Laura, on May 26 placed their six-bedroom, 6,100-square-foot mansion in Wilmette on the market for $2.5 million.

A Portage Park native and Weber High School graduate who formerly was the athletic director at Northern Illinois University, Phillips oversaw athletics at Northwestern from 2008 until 2021, when he was hired as the next commissioner of the ACC, which is headquartered in Greensboro, N.C.

In Wilmette, the Phillipses paid $1.74 million in 2008 for the house, which at the time was newly built. The home has 5-1/2 bathrooms, three fireplaces, crown moldings, chair rail, wainscoting in the dining room and office, a kitchen with an island, and coffered ceilings in several rooms. Outside on the 0.22-acre property are a patio and a two-car garage.

Listing agent Paul Gorney of eXp Realty could not be reached for comment.

The mansion found a buyer just eight days after it was listed, and now is under contract.

The house had a $31,121 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
