In Meghalaya, with rolling hills, dense forests, and hidden waterfalls, trekking and adventure are considered a matter of paradise. Many of the well-famed spots of the state involve lengthy trails through a demanding terrain to really absorb their grandeur. But tourists who may not be prepared for very tough treks, especially in the monsoon months when trails become slippery.

There are a few breathtaking spots in Meghalaya where one can enjoy the view alongside copious greenery and tranquil retreats with little walking involved.

Markham Valley:

Nestled in Meghalaya’s verdant surroundings, the serene Markham Valley is a haven for monsoon holidaymakers who want to experience nature without extensive hikes. Surrounded by green hills and gentle slopes, the village is steeped in cultural heritage and ancient myths. The gentle terrain is easy to navigate, so visitors can soak up nature and tradition at their own leisurely pace.

Also referred to as Diengdoh Waterfall, Mawsawdong Falls found in Mawkama village at the periphery of Sohra district. The trek to the falls entails minimal trekking and treats you with a surreal sight of cascading water against lush monsoon greenery. In comparison to the more tourist-populated areas, this waterfall is relatively lesser visited, thus making it perfect for a quiet and picturesque visit.

Nongstoin, which is the headquarters of West Khasi Hills, is a scenic town that has breathtaking views without one needing to exert much effort to climb. Its valleys, waterfalls, and rolling hills are within easy reach, making it ideal for tourists of all ages and physical abilities. The monsoon adds to its natural beauty, cloaking the scenery with a veil of lush greenery.

Situated amidst the picturesque Jaintia Hills, Khaddum Pieltleng Falls is a lesser-explored gem that doesn’t require a strenuous hike to access. The waterfall smoothly cascades down tiered cliffs, with dense forest and a quiet ambiance that is ideal for monsoon-season exploration. Its high biodiversity also renders it a paradise for bird enthusiasts and photographers. 

Mawsawa Falls:

Mawsawa Falls is a peaceful waterfall in Meghalaya, it’s perfect for those who don’t want to take on difficult trails. Surrounded by wooded lands and rocky outcrops, the falls offer a scenic scene. It’s an ideal monsoon escape for families as well as solo travellers.
