A Geneva man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder after a woman and a teen were found dead by police responding to a domestic violence call on Dec. 26 at a home on the 2700 block of Emma’s Way in Geneva, officials said.
Alejandro Cota, 50, of the 2700 block of Emma’s Way, is accused of stabbing and killing Christina L. Chavira, 47, and a 13-year-old identified as D.C., during the incident, according to officials.
Geneva police said they responded to a domestic violence 911 call at 8 p.m. Dec. 26 at the home, according to a joint press release from Geneva police, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Kane County Coroner’s Office. Officers found the two victims, who were pronounced dead after being taken to area hospitals, officials said.
The incident was isolated to the home, according to the release, and Cota was taken into custody at the scene.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office was called to the hospital to assist in the investigation of Chavira’s death, the release stated. Chavira’s body was transported to the Kane County Morgue, where an autopsy was conducted on Dec. 27, according to officials.
Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of death is consistent with multiple stab wounds, the release stated. Toxicology samples were collected during the autopsy and sent to a forensic laboratory for further analysis.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy on the second victim, D.C., and found the manner of death to be a homicide caused by multiple stab wounds, according to the release.
Cota is currently being held in the Kane County jail, officials said. His first court appearance was Dec. 28, and on Monday the case was transferred to Kane County Judge Julia Yetter, officials said. Cota’s next court date is set for Jan. 9 for a detention hearing, according to the release.
