Geneva residents who want to be the city’s next treasurer can apply for the role through Aug. 7, according to a news release from the city.
The city is looking to fill the post after no candidates ran for the position in the April 1 election. The term for the office extends through May 4, 2029.
The treasurer’s primary responsibility is serving on the Police and Fire Pension boards, which meet quarterly, the release said. The treasurer is also a signatory on city checks, reviews treasurer’s reports sent in to the City Council, certifies and signs off on required state financial filings, carries out the necessary signatures on debt issuance documents once City Council authorizes it and provides assistance to the finance director. The treasurer is paid $225 per month, per the city.
To be considered, individuals interested must have lived within Geneva’s corporate boundaries for at least one year before the appointment, be a legal U.S. citizen, be a registered voter, have no felony convictions and be current on taxes and payments to the city, according to the city.
Once appointed, the new treasurer will have to file a statement of economic interest with the Kane County Clerk’s Office.
Interested Geneva residents are asked to submit an online application, along with a letter of interest, at https://www.geneva.il.us/FormCenter/City-Administrator-11/City-BoardCommission-Application-115.
The candidate will be appointed by Mayor Kevin Burns with the advice and consent of the City Council, the release noted. Individuals can direct questions about the treasurer position to Geneva City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins at 630- 232-8495.
