Gorakhpur Link Expressway Inauguration: The Gorakhpur Link Expressway is all set to become a major lifeline for eastern Uttar Pradesh, offering world-class road connectivity and opening new avenues for regional development. From the moment construction began, the project has started delivering on the government’s vision of improved mobility, industrial growth, and job creation.

As a fully access-controlled expressway, the 91.35-km stretch can be covered in under an hour. The route links Gorakhpur to Azamgarh, where it connects to the Purvanchal Expressway, enabling commuters to reach the state capital Lucknow in just three and a half hours.

Infrastructure and connectivity, especially road connectivity, are seen as essential to comprehensive development. Recognising this, the Yogi government has maintained a consistent focus on strengthening road infrastructure across the state.

Smoother Journey To Capital Lucknow

Gorakhpur, a key hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is fast emerging as a model of development with expanding four-lane road networks. The newly built Gorakhpur Link Expressway will play a crucial role in this transformation. Stretching over 91 km, it links Azamgarh with the Purvanchal Expressway, streamlining access to Lucknow and other major cities. Improved traffic flow is also expected to benefit trade and industry in the region.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the expressway runs through Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh districts. The project, including land acquisition costs, has been completed at a total cost of ₹7,283.28 crore.

A top-priority initiative of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the expressway starts near Jaitpur on NH-27 (Gorakhpur Bypass) and ends at Salarpur in Azamgarh, where it merges with the Purvanchal Expressway. This strategic link connects Gorakhpur with a high-speed corridor leading to Lucknow, Agra, and Delhi.

Key Features Of Gorakhpur Link Expressway

A flagship project of CM Yogi Adityanath, the Gorakhpur Link Expressway starts at Jaitpur (Gorakhpur) and concludes at Salarpur (Azamgarh). It is a fully access-controlled four-lane road, expandable to six lanes.

The expressway features:

* 2 toll plazas
* 3 ramp plazas
* 7 flyovers
* 16 vehicular underpasses
* 50 light vehicular underpasses
* 35 pedestrian underpasses
* 7 major bridges
* 27 minor bridges
* 389 culverts

These amenities have been designed to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient travel experience, further strengthening the infrastructure backbone of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
