Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in July saw year over year revenues climb by 15 percent even as the overall Northwest Indiana gaming industry saw a revenue decline of 9 percent.

Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana continues to lead the state, pulling in $36.8 million in revenues for July, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission’s monthly report. Revenue in July 2021 was reported at $32.1 million. July is the second month year-over-year revenues were available for the casino. The July 2022 figure also is stronger than the June figure for Hard Rock, which pulled in $33.1 million in June.

“We were very happy with July. We were 15 percent year over year,” Matt Schuffert, president of Hard Rock Northern Indiana.

“We are certainly happy with our performance despite the market decline,” Schuffert said, adding slot machine activity year over year helped drive the increase. Hard Rock brought in $11.9 million in electronic gaming and slots in July 2022 over $9.3 million for the same month in 2021.

Horseshoe Casino Hammond dipped to third place in the state with July earnings of $28.8 million. It was outperformed by its sister casino Horseshoe Indianapolis, which brought in $30.7 million for the month. Horseshoe in Hammond reported revenues of $36.2 million in July 2021, according to the IGC report. The casino led the state in revenues in July 2021. Representatives from the casino did not respond to requests for comment.

Ameristar Casino in East Chicago reported revenues of $17.6 million in July, down from $22.7 million reported in July 2021. The July 2022 figure is an increase over the June 2022 figure, which was reported at $16.2 million, according to the IGC report. Ameristar representatives do not comment on the IGC report.

While Schuffert said they are pleased with July’s numbers, they remain cautious about the pressure of inflation and high, though declining, gas prices may have on the market.

“I think there is certainly a lot of caution out there as it pertains to certain conditions that impact our industry. It’s good to see gas prices headed in the right direction,” Schuffert said.
