Bisht, a five-time MLA from Karawal Nagar, won the Mustafabad seat during the Delhi Assembly election. This time, AAP had nominated Adil Ahmad Khan, while the Congress nominated Ali Mehdi and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) also joined the fray. The party fielded Tahir Hussain, an accused in the Delhi riots case from this seat.

Bisht won the high-stakes Muslim-majority seat with 85,215 votes defeating Khan with a margin of 17,578 votes while Hussain finished third with 33,474 votes.

The oath ceremony was scheduled to be held on February 20 (Thursday) at 4:30 pm with the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers expected to take oath at Ramlila Maidan. However, the ceremony will be held at 11 am on February 20 at the city’s Ramlila Maidan.

After his win he spoke of his intention to push for renaming Mustafabad, adding that he has been engaged in developmental work in the area since 1998. As per to ANI, Bisht confirmed that he would advocate for a name change, saying, “We will change the name from Mustafabad to Shivpuri or Shiv Vihar… I will change the name because I did the development work from 1998 to 2008 there…and the development work is not related to the name.”
