India playing 11 for IND vs IRE T20 World Cup match: India begins their quest for the T20 World Cup trophy after 11 years, facing underdogs Ireland in the IND vs IRE T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 5.

One of the biggest uncertainties is that Team India has yet to officially confirm their openers for IND vs IRE 2024 T20 World Cup match. The anticipated opening pair is Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Virat Kohli at number three. However, Kohli’s outstanding performance as an opener in the 2024 IPL has sparked calls for him to open the batting for the Men in Blue.

India has played just one practice match before starting its T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. In this warm-up match against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid assessed the team’s preparations and hinted at possible strategic changes for the tournament.

In the recently concluded IPL 17, Virat Kohli excelled as an opener, scoring 741 runs in 14 matches for RCB. Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled with form and wasn’t included in the warm-up match. As a result, Virat Kohli may open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma.

Rishabh Pant batted at number three in the warm-up match against Bangladesh, dominating the bowlers even on a slow pitch. If Virat Kohli opens the batting, Suryakumar Yadav may take the number three spot, followed by Pant.

Next in line would be Shivam Dube, who could be a crucial asset on a spin-friendly pitch. Hardik Pandya will play the role of a finisher at number six.

With Virat Kohli opening, India’s lineup of all-rounders becomes even stronger. Following Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel will come in, both capable of excelling with both bat and ball, thus powering the spin department as well.

With Jasprit Bumrah leading the pace attack, it appears that Arshdeep Singh will be preferred over Mohammed Siraj. In the warm-up match against Bangladesh, Arshdeep Singh showcased brilliant swing bowling.

India likely playing 11 for IND vs IRE match: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (Wicket-keeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.
