India are taking on New Zealand in the first Test of the three-match series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While Day 1 of the Test match was called off without a ball being bowled, the hosts had a nightmarish outing on Day 2, getting bowled out for their lowest Test total at home- 46- after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

While they did not have the best of days on the field as well, things turned worse when Rishabh Pant went down with an injury. India’s preferred stumper across the three formats missed a stumping opportunity and ended up on injuring his knee in the process. Pant had to leave the field and did not turn up for the rest of the day. Ahead of the start of Day 3, the BCCI has issued an update saying that Pant will not be keeping the wickets at all on Day 3.

Rishabh Pant Not Keeping Wickets A Precautionary Measure: Rohit

After the end of the day’s play on Thursday (October 17), India captain Rohit Sharma provided an update on Rishabh Pant’s injury. He said that it was a precautionary measure to keep him away from action with Dhruv Jurel keeping wickets instead.

“Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on Rishabh’s kneecap, the same leg which he’s done a surgery on. So he has got a little bit of swelling on it. It’s tender at this point in time, so it is a precautionary measure. That was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, he can recover,” said Rohit at the press conference after Stumps on Day 2.
