Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, who found himself at the center of a controversy for making crass remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show “India’s Got Latent,” has admitted to committing a “mistake.” In his statement to the Maharashtra Cyber, Allahbadia acknowledged that his controversial comments were inappropriate, officials said.

The Maharashtra Cyber and Mumbai police are currently probing the remarks made by Allahbadia, which included crude comments about parents and sex. The remarks triggered widespread backlash and resulted in multiple FIRs being filed against him.

On Monday, both Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani appeared separately before the Maharashtra Cyber to record their statements in connection with the obscenity case registered against them and others, an official confirmed.

Ranveer Allahbadia calls his ‘sex with parents’ comment a mistake

“In his statement, Allahbadia admitted that he made a mistake by making controversial comments on the YouTube show, for which he is being criticised,” the official said.

The social media influencer further acknowledged that his choice of words during the show was a mistake. He also explained that his appearance on “India’s Got Latent” was out of friendship for Samay Raina, emphasising that he did not charge any fee for attending the show.

Apoorva Makhija and others summoned

On Tuesday, the Maharashtra Cyber recorded the statement of social media influencer Apoorva Makhija as part of the ongoing investigation into the “India’s Got Latent” controversy. Makhija is among those named in the obscenity case.

The authorities have also summoned actor Rakhi Sawant, who appeared as a guest on the show, to record her statement on February 27, the official added.

While Samay Raina’s statement is yet to be recorded, the Assam police have also launched a separate investigation into an obscenity case against Allahbadia and others.
