A man who Aurora police said was armed with a knife sustained at least one gunshot wound after he was shot by Aurora officers Wednesday afternoon, the police department said in a press release.
At around 12:35 p.m., Aurora Police Telecommunications received a call for a person with a weapon in the 300 block of S. Broadway in Aurora, according to the release.
Responding officers found a man barricaded and armed with a weapon, according to the news release. When the officers encountered the man, he displayed a knife, police said.
Aurora police officers fired shots, and the man sustained at least one gunshot wound, the police department said. Officers then began to render aid until Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived. The fire department continued to provide emergency medical care to the man.
The police department did not provide information on the man’s condition as of late Wednesday afternoon.
The involved officers were taken to a local hospital for evaluation in accordance with protocol, the release noted.
The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force is conducting an investigation into the officers’ actions, per the release.
