IPL 2025: RCB’s Chinnaswamy Curse Continues

In Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s poor run at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, has continued.

In their latest match, RCB suffered a 5-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings in a rain-affected game reduced to 14 overs per side. With this loss, an embarrassing record has now been registered in RCB’s name.

RCB create Unwanted Record at home

Following the defeat to Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has now become the team with the most losses at a single home venue in IPL history. They have lost 46 matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, overtaking Delhi Capitals, who have lost 45 matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Teams with Most Defeats at Home in IPL:

Royal Challengers Bangalore – 46 losses (M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru)

Delhi Capitals – 45 losses (Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi)

Kolkata Knight Riders – 38 losses (Eden Gardens, Kolkata)

Mumbai Indians – 34 losses (Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai)

Punjab Kings – 30 losses (IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali)

RCB’s Home Record in IPL 2025

RCB has played three matches at home this season — all resulting in defeats.

Lost to Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets

Lost to Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets

Lost to Punjab Kings by 5 wickets

Setback in Points Table

This latest defeat has also impacted RCB’s position in the points table. Previously placed in the top three, RCB has now slipped further down, making their road to playoffs more challenging as the league stage nears its halfway mark.

With the recent loss to Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore has now dropped to the fourth spot in the IPL 2025 points table.

A big lesson for us: Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar expressed his disappointment with RCB’s batting performance following five-wicket defeat to Punjab. He admitted the team had expected a much stronger showing with the bat.

“Initially it was sticking and two paced, but we could have done far better as a batting unit. Partnerships are important, we have lost wickets in quick intervals and that’s a big lesson for us. We’ve had to make that change due to conditions (on leaving out Paddikal). The wicket wasn’t that bad, it was under covers for a long time, it helped their bowlers, credit goes to them. No matter how the wicket plays, we need to bat well and get a winning total. The bowling unit is doing pretty well, that’s a big positive. The batters have played with intent, that’s something pleasing. We can correct some of our mistakes in the batting unit,” Patidar said at the post-match presentation.
