Italian, BBQ and salad restaurants sprouting up in downtown Naperville — and how about a new cookie shop for dessert?

Three new restaurants and a cookie bakery are setting up shop in downtown Naperville.

Sweetgreen, a fast-casual restaurant serving salads, is scheduled to open this spring at 223 S. Main St. in the former Gap Kids location.

The restaurant chain was launched in 2007 in Washington, D.C., by three college graduates who wanted to provide a healthy alternative to fast food. Fifteen years later, there are Sweetgreens throughout the United States, including 17 Illinois locations in Chicago, Deerfield, Evanston, Oak Brook, Oak Park, Schaumburg and elsewhere.

Scott Harris Hospitality, which owns Fat Rosie’s Taco and Tequila Bar, Vasili’s and La Sorella Di Francesca in Naperville, plans to unveil two more restaurants downtown on the north and south side of East Chicago Avenue.

When it opens this spring, the rustic wine bar Davanti Enoteca will offer dinner daily and a brunch option on weekends at 47 E. Chicago Ave., where Fat Rosie’s was formerly located.

Its other locations in Western Springs and San Diego offer a menu featuring pasta, pizza and traditional Italian entrees.

New to the Scott Harris portfolio is the barbecue restaurant Smokeshow BBQ, which is going into the River District dining and shopping center at 22 E. Chicago Ave., near Fat Rosie’s new location.

An opening in mid-February is anticipated, according to the Downtown Naperville Alliance.

Cookies & Dreams, a shop specializing in freshly baked cookies, is hiring staff in anticipation of its February opening in the River District strip mall at 22 E. Chicago Ave. in downtown Naperville.

Also opening in February in the River District strip center will be Cookies & Dreams, a shop featuring freshly baked cookies.

The specialty store, which will offer catering for events and gift boxes, is in the process of hiring staff, according to a post on Facebook.

Started in Iowa, Cookies & Dreams offers a selection of 10 to 12 handcrafted cookies on its standard menu and three or four varieties that are swapped out seasonally.

The Naperville location will be the fifth for the chain, which has three shops in Iowa and one other in Illinois in Oak Lawn.
