Former Illinois House of Representatives Minority Leader Jim Durkin and his wife, Celeste, on May 26 sold their four-bedroom, 3,569-square-foot house in Western Springs for $1.10 million.
A Republican and a Westchester native, Durkin, 62, served in the state House from 1995 until 2003 and again from 2006 until 2023. He was the House Minority Leader from 2013 until his retirement early this year.
In Western Springs, Durkin and his wife paid $675,000 in 2003 for the brick house. Built in 1932, the 11-room house has 3-1/2 bathrooms, two fireplaces, a living room with French doors and a kitchen with soft close cabinetry, a custom tile backsplash and granite counters. Other features include a breakfast room, a family room with cathedral ceilings and custom built-ins, a primary bedroom suite with three closets and Carrara marble heated floors and a lower level with a workout room.
The Durkins previously tried selling the house several times. They first listed it in 2018 for $1.15 million and reduced it to $1.05 million and then to just under $1 million before taking it off the market late that year. They then had it on the market for several months in 2021 at $1.19 million. Finally, they relisted it in March for $1.09 million, and the house went under contract within two weeks.
Listing agent Deidre Rudich did respond to a request for comment.
The Durkins’ house had a $16,539 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
