The University of Chicago men’s soccer team — and its first-year coach — made history Saturday in Salem, Va.

The Maroons defeated Williams 2-0 in the Division III final for the program’s first championship, making Julianne Sitch the first female coach to lead a men’s team to a national title. Sitch, 39, an Oswego native, starred at DePaul and played professionally with several teams, including the Chicago Red Stars.

Midfielder Robbie Pino broke a scoreless game with a goal from about 25 yards out at the 66-minute, 28-second mark. Forward Ryan Yetishefsky scored an empty-netter at 89:44, capping Chicago’s undefeated 22-0-1 season.

Williams, located in Williamstown, Mass., finished 10-2-11.
