Chicago, it’s road construction season. Brace yourself for closures, uneven pavement, and delays.

Drivers this spring and summer can expect paving projects around the city and suburbs and closures around Grant Park during the NASCAR Chicago Street Race in July. And, of course, snarled traffic on the Kennedy Expressway, where the first year of a multiyear construction project is underway.

Along with construction and other roadway projects, drivers will also have to contend with summer concerts and festivals downtown.

Here are some of the projects around the city and suburbs so you know when to add a little more time to your commute. We’ll be updating this list throughout the spring and summer:

The water from the DuPage River that flows under the north section of the Washington Street bridge was rerouted, allowing crews to work beneath the span. The city received federal funding to replace the bridge because of deterioration. (Suzanne Baker / Naperville Sun)

Here’s a look at projects happening in the suburbs this season.
