Earlier this month, actor Govinda was rushed to the hospital after his gun accidentally misfired. His nephew Krushna was in Australia on a professional tour at the time. Recently, however, Krushna finally made time to visit his uncle at home. It is to be noted that Govinda and comedian Krushna Abhishek had a strained relationship for a few years. Govinda attended Krushna’s sister, Arti Singh’s wedding and buried the hatched.

In a conversation with ETimes, Krushna opened up about the emotional reunion, sharing, “I was in Australia when I found out about Chi Chi mama’s accident. I almost cancelled my tour, but after speaking with the hospital staff and Kash, I was reassured that he was stable and in good spirits. As soon as I returned to India, I visited him at his home—for the first time in seven years. It felt like I had completed half a vanvaas. He’s recovering well. I spent an hour with him and finally got to see Nammo (Govinda’s daughter, Tina Ahuja) after seven long years. It was such an emotional moment; I just hugged her.”

Krushna says he didn’t meet mami Sunita Ahuja

Reflecting on the reunion, Krushna told ETimes, “We laughed and reminisced about the good old days, and it felt like no time had passed. All the memories of living with mama and mami (Sunita) came flooding back. I even joked with mama, ‘Hall toh poora badal gaya hai.’ Thankfully, all the issues and misunderstandings have been cleared. I’m really glad that the past wasn’t brought up — that’s the essence of family. We might have differences, but nothing can keep us apart for too long. I didn’t get to meet mami, as she was busy, but honestly, I was a bit nervous. I knew she would give me a piece of her mind (laughs). But when you make mistakes out of misunderstanding, you have to be ready to face the scolding from elders.”

When asked why it took so long to reconnect, Krushna reflected on the missed opportunities, “I don’t know why it took so much time. There were many things going on that prevented us from meeting. But I’m happy we’ve finally put the past behind us.”

Since his first visit, Krushna has returned to check on Govinda, who is now able to move around with the help of crutches. “I’ll be visiting mama’s house regularly now, and I’ll meet mami soon too. I’m also excited to meet Nammo again at Arti’s (Krushna’s sister) house. My two sisters have already planned it,” he added.

For years, tension had simmered between Govinda and Krushna, causing a rift in their families. Govinda had publicly expressed his displeasure with Krushna’s humour, particularly the jokes made at his expense on television. Adding to the discord, Govinda’s wife, Sunita, distanced herself from Krushna and Kashmera, accusing them of disrespect and vowed never to speak to them again. The strained relationship led both families to maintain their distance until earlier this year when Govinda and his son, Yashvardhan, attended Krushna’s sister Arti Singh’s wedding in April, marking a potential turning point in their relationship.
