Former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is expected to have a new job with the Las Vegas Raiders, a source confirmed to the Tribune on Sunday.
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce is hiring Getsy to be his new offensive coordinator after first choice Kliff Kingsbury removed himself from consideration, ESPN reported. Getsy also interviewed for offensive coordinator positions with the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints.
The Bears fired Getsy on Jan. 10 after two seasons under coach Matt Eberflus.
His departure came after the Bears finished 20th in total offense with 323.2 yards per game in 2023, including 182.1 passing yards per game (27th). Starting quarterback Justin Fields didn’t progress at the rate the Bears wanted in two years under Getsy and quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko.
However, the Bears rushing offense ranked first and second in the NFL in Getsy’s two seasons.
The Bears hired former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to replace Getsy.
Now Getsy moves on to a Raiders team that could be in the market for a new quarterback after starting quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell and Brian Hoyer in 2023.
Before the Bears, Getsy coached with the Green Bay Packers for seven seasons, including as the quarterbacks coach for Aaron Rodgers for three seasons and two seasons as the passing game coordinator. He also coached Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams in Green Bay and coached eight years at the college level. But he hadn’t called plays at the NFL level before joining the Bears.
The Raiders hired Pierce to be their head coach on Jan. 19 after he guided the team to a 5-4 finish as the interim coach following Josh McDaniels’ midseason firing.
