Hammond man faces 45 years in EC slaying
A Hammond man admitted Tuesday he shot a man seven times behind an East Chicago gas station last year.
Eihlan Hunt will plead guilty but mentally ill to murder in the Jan. 8, 2023, death of Kelley Holmes, 26, records show. The deal calls for 45 years.
A judge would have to accept the plea. His sentencing hearing is Dec. 18.
East Chicago police responded at 6:22 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2023, to a BP gas station, 4502 Indianapolis Boulevard.
A witness saw a man walk up to Holmes.
“I need to talk to you,” the man said, as he and Holmes walked toward the back. Moments later, the witness heard 10 to 12 gunshots.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors would drop a pending December 2022 attempted murder case and another misdemeanor case.
Hammond child molesting case dropped
Prosecutors dropped a Hammond child molesting case Tuesday, saying they couldn’t prove it.
Tommie Davis was charged in August 2019 with three counts of child molesting and one count of battery by bodily waste.
The top charge, Level 1 child molesting, carried a 20- to 40-year penalty.
The victim told cops Davis molested her starting as a preteen in a Hammond home from February 2017 to December 2018.
