The parents of a Logansport teen whose disappearance sparked a two-state search were taken into custody early Wednesday morning and the boy was found safe after a SWAT team served search and arrest warrants at their home, according to police.

Daniel T. Muir, 40, is charged with a Level 6 felony count of obstruction of justice and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery. According to multiple media outlets, Muir is a former defensive tackle with the NFL who played four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

His wife, Kristin Muir, 38, also was charged with a Level 6 felony count of obstruction of justice, according to a release from the Indiana State Police’s Peru post.

Around 6 a.m. Eastern time on July 3, the ISP SWAT team executed search and arrest warrants, both issued by Cass Circuit Court, at the Muirs’ residence in the 1700 block of West U.S. 24 in Logansport.

The operation led to the discovery of Daniel and Kristin Muir and their son at the home. The 14-year-old boy was the subject of a Silver Alert issued on June 28. Daniel and Kristen Muir were taken into custody without incident and remanded to the Cass County Jail.

The teen, who appeared safe and well, was released to the care and custody of the Cass County Department of Child Services, police said.

The ordeal, police said, began on June 16, when the boy, who the Post-Tribune isn’t naming because he is under 18, left a family member’s residence in Ohio with his mother, Kristen Muir, in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban belonging to Servant Leader’s Foundation in Kokomo.

Shortly after leaving the residence, the Garfield Heights, Ohio, police department pulled the vehicle over but the boy was not in the vehicle.

Around June 18, 2024, the Cass County Department of Child Services asked investigators with ISP to investigate allegations of domestic battery to the teen, which reportedly occurred in the child’s home in the 1700 block of West US Highway 24 in Logansport, property owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation.

The Servant Leader’s Foundation is a nonprofit religious organization reportedly affiliated with Straitway Truth Ministries based in Tennessee, which some media outlets have called a possible cult. Daniel Muir, who played defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts and other NFL teams, is listed as a pastor and the head of Straitway’s Indiana Goshen community, according to the Straitway website.

As police continued their search for the boy, police had preliminary contact with his parents and were able to visit their residence.

Police issued the Silver Alert for the boy on the afternoon of June 28, after the Muirs had agreed earlier that day to bring their son to meet with ISP investigators at the Peru Post.

Police said the couple agreed to meet with the police at 12 p.m. Eastern time that day but around 11 a.m., the Muirs backed out of the arrangement, which signaled an unwillingness to cooperate.

Police received assistance from the Logansport Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing and state police encourage the public to come forward with any information they may have involving the incident with the boy by calling either the Peru Post at 800-382-0689 or 911.
