Chennai: Series of events have been planned by Chennai Corporation and other Chennaiites to celebrate Madras Day 2022 which falls on August 22. Chennai turns 383 years and the theme of the year will be “our Chennai, our pride”.
Chennai Corporation is holding the event in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
According to a report on The Hindu, Chennai Corporation said that the celebrations will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar. The events will take place from 3.30 pm to 11.30 pm on both days.
The celebration will have food stalls, selfie booths and stall for organic fertilizers. The event will also have traditional games and live stage performances.
Tamil Nadu Ministers and Chennai Corporation officials are expected to participate in the inauguration of the event on Saturday.
In a tweet, Chennai Corporation called the people of Chennai to participate in the event.

On the other hand, historians and other Chennaiites have joined together to organize several events for the Madras Day celebrations.
Quizz, Heritage Walks & More
The Madras Day Celebrations are held every year but the highlight of this year’s celebration is a tribute to singer SPB, a live concert on activism in Tamil cinema and an event to revive traditional games.
Kreeda, a Chennai-based company is working towards reviving traditional games. Vinita Sidhartha, the founder of Kreeda said that they will be launching a signature campaign to ‘preserve our games’ and playing these games for 20 weeks in the parks of Chennai, said a report on The Hindu.
There are also events including ‘Heritage Walk: Madrasin Pengal’, ‘Talk: Royalty of Madras: A talk on Kings and Queens who dot Madras History’ and ‘Exhibition: Stories of Madras’.
