A 35-year-old man is in serious condition after he was hit by a car on Lake Shore Drive when exiting a stalled vehicle, police said.

The man was the driver of a sedan that stalled on the shoulder in the 900 block of N. Lake Shore Drive in the Streeterville neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. A driver in an SUV going southbound hit the man when he got out of the car, and remained on scene to cooperate with police.

A woman passenger in the car was taken to the hospital in good condition. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The Major Accidents unit is investigating.
