For many around the world, the world of sports serves as a source of inspiration. There are so many stories of athletes overcoming the most difficult of situations and circumstances that leaves spectators in awe and inspired. However, a sporting video which has now surfaced on social media is not about winning or losing the contest, its about the indomitable will of a person. This is the story of Spain’s Alex Roca.

The 32-year-old whose body has been affected by cerebral palsy since he was an infant took 5:50:51 to complete the marathon. But it was never about the timing or winning the race, it was more about finishing the test of endurance. And boy did he pass with flying colours!

The average completion time for this 42.195 km race for a man of Roca’s age is nearly 4 hours but this was not about being “average.” The Spanish Athletics Federation runner, who suffers from 76% Cerebral Palsy and communicates with sign language, has always been trying to play catch up.

Yet against all odds, the man has repeatedly, found ways to cross the finishing line. The video, which was later shared on his social media, is a testimony to just that unwavering spirit which could leave others inspired.

“I HAVE MADE HISTORY! First person in the WORLD with a 76% disability who has managed to finish a MARATHON: 42, 195 km ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻 This has been possible thanks to ALL my team. Thanks to ALL of you who have been cheering, I HAVE NO WORDS…,” the caption of his post roughly translates to in English.

Here is the video:

The video has received over millions of views already. While some have heaped praises on the athlete, others have shared their feelings after watching the video.

“you are amazing there are no barriers you are an inspiration,” commented one user on Instagram.

“Admirable,” wrote another.
