Manipur CM N Biren Singh On NRC: ‘Assembly Passed Resolution Recommending It, But Rest Of The Work Is…’

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that the decision on the implementation of the NRC is in the hands of the central government, news agency ANI reported on Saturday. He further stated that the Manipur Assembly has passed the resolution and has recommended it, and now the rest of the work is in the hands of the Union Ministry. 

Speaking to reporters, the Manipur CM said, “The decision has to be taken by the central government. Our Assembly has passed the resolution and recommended but now the rest of the work is in the hands of the Union Ministry so I will make the request and I will follow it.”

On Friday, N Biren Singh said that the first batch of Myanmar nationals who allegedly entered India illegally were deported. In a post on X, CM Singh said, “First batch of Myanmar nationals who entered India illegally deported today.”

In an interaction with the media, the Manipur CM said they were following legal procedures in deporting the Myanmar nationals. “The number is huge, so we cannot deport them all at once. We are deporting them one by one, and there are some legal procedures that we have to follow. We are following them, deporting them, and will continue to deport,” the Manipur CM said, as quoted by ANI.
