A Merrillville man was charged Thursday after allegedly beating, knocking three front teeth out, then choking a woman. She later found out she was pregnant.

Malik M. McKee, 30, is currently in custody, held on a $75,000, or $7,500 cash surety bond. A new court date has not been set.

He is charged with aggravated battery, criminal confinement, two counts of domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, strangulation, domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, intimidation and misdemeanor domestic battery.

Merrillville Police responded on March 5 to a domestic battery call.

A witness, who saw her later, reported the victim’s bruised eye was swollen shut and she wrote a note: “If anything happens to (me), Malik McKee..(killed me).”

When police arrived at the house, the victim opened her door, cried and asked officers to get her away from the house, scared McKee would kill her. He was still inside.

Police learned McKee went on a “Xanax bender,” During a four-day hotel stay in Illinois from Feb. 29-March 4, he hit her where her injuries could be covered. When they returned home, he punched her in the face until she had an open gash on her eyebrow, her right eye was swollen shut and he had knocked out three teeth.

She went to the hospital with McKee, but didn’t call the police. She lied to the doctor, saying she hit the counter, then tried to signal otherwise, since McKee was in the exam room. She found out she was pregnant at the hospital.

When she told him back home, McKee punched her in the eye and said he’d kill her and the baby, according to the affidavit. He choked her until she passed out.
