A three-bedroom, 2,050-square-foot brick midcentury modern house in Glen Ellyn was listed recently for $539,900.
Built in 1951 and located on Birchbrook Court, the house originally stood on a 4.69-acre lot on Illinois Highway 53 in south Glen Ellyn. The home was designed by architect A.F. Ericksen.
In 1981, the owner of the house, Hudson Harrison, won approval to subdivide the land into a 17-lot subdivision, with the existing midcentury modern home occupying one of those lots.
Now, the house’s longtime owners have decided to downsize, so they are selling the home, listing agent Kelly Daiberl of Kinzie Brokerage LLC told Elite Street.
“The house has bold, yet simple, architecture that focuses on horizontal lines, elevation changes and a sprawling footprint,” Daiberl said. “The home also blends beautifully into the hill it sits upon, and it encourages occupants to connect with nature by providing panoramic views of mature trees and lush landscaping. And the numerous expansive windows flood the home with natural light from every exposure.”
The house has 1½ bathrooms, one fireplace, an open floor plan, exposed brick walls, wide plank wood floors, crown moldings and a wall of French doors overlooking the fully fenced backyard. The home’s basement has an epoxy floor and custom built-in closet shelving.
Outside on the 0.29-acre property are a custom paver patio, a seat wall and a new pergola.
The house had an $8,947 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
