Minor Earthquake Of Magnitude 3.0 In Thrissur, Palakkad Districts

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 struck the districts of Thrissur and Palakkad on Saturday morning, causing brief panic among residents. However, no reported damage or injuries have been reported.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the tremor occurred at approximately 8:15 AM, with the epicenter located at Latitude 10.55 N and Longitude 76.05 E, at a depth of seven kilometers. The tremor manifested as minor vibrations that lasted about four seconds, prompting many residents to rush out of their homes in alarm.

Local authorities in Thrissur, speaking to PTI, noted that the tremors were felt distinctly in regions such as Kunnamkulam, Erumappetti, Pazhanji, and parts of Palakkad district. Despite the panic, there were no immediate reports of damage to property or injuries to people.

Officials from the state Geology Department and other relevant agencies have gone to the affected regions to conduct a thorough study of the incident. The NCS, which is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activity, continues to monitor the situation closely.
