The winter storm is not over National Weather Services said early Friday morning as more snow was expected Friday afternoon accompanied with below zero windchills into the night hours.

Officials said there is a chance of additional snow fall late Friday afternoon in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana. Windchills of 5 to 15 below zero are expected Friday night, officials warned.

Wednesday, the winter storm began with 3 to 6 inches of snow expected when the Chicago area was issued a winter weather advisory.

Officials said accumulating snow was possible late Friday afternoon into the evening hours especially along and north of I-80. Light freezing rain or drizzle is possible late Friday night into Saturday morning along and south of I-80.

Frigid temperatures are expected the coming week with a possibility of Monday morning being the coldest when windchills between 15 to 25 below zero are expected, officials said.

Current conditions at O’Hare International Airport is partly cloudy at 15 degrees with a windchill of negative 9. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are the same at 18 degrees with a windchill of negative 8.
