Ales for Tails fundraiser seeking photogenic cats and dogs
Pet owners with adorable cats or dogs can submit their pets’ photos for a chance to be featured on an upcoming beer can.
Paws for a Cause is hosting its 4th annual Ales for Tails fundraiser in which one photogenic cat and dog will be part of the artwork while raising money to help provide affordable veterinary care, a news release said.
Pet owners have until Aug. 21 to nominate their pet for a chance to appear on the 2025 Ales for Tails West Coast Wizard beer. The limited, small-batch beverage is produced by Miskatonic Brewing Company in Darien and Naperville.
To nominate a pet, submit a photo, a $10 donation and a description of why the cat or dog should be selected. Submissions can be sent through the Paws for a Cause website at www.pcvetcare.org/events/ales-for-tails.
Voting takes place from Aug. 22 to Sept. 21. Each vote costs $1 and will benefit Paws for a Cause Vet Care, a nonprofit in Naperville that offers physical exams, vaccinations, diagnostic screenings, microchipping, surgery and other pet services.
Styrofoam recycling event being held Sept. 6 in Naperville
A Styrofoam collection event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Route 59 Station, 475 Fairway Drive, Naperville.
The collection is sponsored by the city of Naperville in partnership with the Naperville Environment and Sustainability Task Force, Naperville Noon Lions and Dart Container.
Rigid Styrofoam packaging and containers and clean Styrofoam cups, clam shells and meat trays will be accepted, a news release said. Items such as brown polyurethane foam, packing peanuts, blue building insulation and dirty food containers will not be accepted.
Dart Container processes the material at their Michigan headquarters. It will be reused to make picture frames, crown molding and other products, the city’s website said.
The Lions Club will also accept glasses, phones, running shoes, key fobs, hearing aids and printer cartridges at the event.
During a Styrofoam collection event in May, the city collected 315 pounds of Styrofoam, diverting 23 cubic yards of waste from landfills.

Will County health center expanding services in Bolingbrook
Will County Community Health Center is expanding services at its Bolingbrook location.
The health center recently opened at 391 Quadrangle Drive, Suite 130, across the parking lot from its previous location. The larger center provides primary care for residents 5 and older and behavioral health and family planning services.
Primary medical care includes preventive care and health maintenance and treatment of common illnesses and chronic conditions. Behavioral health services includes assessing, treating, planning and medication management.
Family planning services include contraception, pregnancy testing and counseling as well as confidential STI testing and treatment.
The center’s hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays; 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Tuesdays; 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays; 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays; and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays.
