Jay Wachtel named Naperville North’s new principal

The Naperville District 203 School Board this week named Jay Wachtel as the new principal of Naperville North High School, effective immediately.

Wachtel has been serving this school year as Naperville North’s interim principal since the retirement of principal Stephanie Posey.

Since 2002, Wachtel has held multiple roles at the high school, including assistant principal of operations, Career and Technical Education department chair and business teacher, the district said.

In addition to this school year, he also stepped in as interim principal in the 2020-21 academic year when Posey served as interim assistant superintendent of secondary education.

Wachtel began his teaching career in Colorado and spent three years at Libertyville High School before being hired at D203. He has a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business education from Illinois State University, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Illinois University, and a master’s degree in global studies in education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

He and his wife live in Naperville, and their two children are Naperville North graduates.
